These might not be your first 24 words, but they are 24 of the first important words we need to know.

Two vowels together usually make the long sound of the first vowel. Try explaining that rule to your 6-year-old! This video makes it fun. |
Great way to see and hear word families.

Rhyming is an important skill in reading. When we can rhyme, we are suddenly able to read thousands (or more?) words because we have learned to hear and read spelling patterns. As we get older, we use rhyming patterns to help us spell. Unfortunately, rhyming is a difficult concept for some. It's one of those things we just have to hear. I've included several rhyming videos. The more we hear the predictability of rhyming words, the more we "get it." Pick your favorite and listen often, or listen to all three!
I really like this first rhyming video. It uses children, music, and lots of repetition! Please excuse the ad at the beginning. The video's worth the wait.

This video has many pairs of rhyming words. It might be confusing to a beginner because only the pairs rhyme but the words are presented in larger groups. But this video is just a lot of fun.

Another great rhyming video. This video not only repeats the word to be rhymed with, it repeats both rhyming words and the visual representation (the words and pictures).
