Sometimes it's fun just to hear a story read.  All children seem to enjoy hearing a good book.  Listening to stories being read is a great way to improve reading!

How can that be?  What can they learn from hearing me read?

1. Children learn what reading should sound like.  When you read, use your emotions and expressions.  Don't be afraid to use different voices for different characters.
2. Children hear new words and improve their vocabulary.
3. Beginning readers learn about the reading process.  They learn that the marks on the page mean something, they learn to read from left to right, and they learn the association between pictures and text.
4. Children learn to associate reading with fun!

There are so many more benefits that it would be impossible for me to list them all.  So, let's just jump into listening to some stories.
